Baptism

In our church, we believe in Baptism by Immersion.  The Savior was baptized by Immersion, and in order to become more like him we should follow his ways.

Immersion is symbolic of the death of a person's sinful life and the rebirth into a spiritual life, promising to be dedicated to the service of God and His children.

We also believe in being baptized at the age of 8.  We believe that is the age of accountability.  That’s the age that children become accountable for their actions, before then Satan cannot tempt children.  We believe that little children are redeemed through the mercy of Christ.

Our sweet Isaac turned 8 this year.

We believe that in order to become a member of the LDS church, you must be baptized.

He wants to be a part of this amazing church. I couldn’t be more proud.

He was baptized by his father a few weeks ago in our church building.  Each church building has their own font, allowing for baptism by immersion.

After the baptism, he received the gift of the Holy Ghost.  Remember when Jesus promised the apostles that he wouldn’t leave them comfortless?  That he would send them a comforter?  We believe that gift is a gift for all who receive the gospel into their lives.  Isaac was given the special gift of the Holy Ghost, also known as the comforter.

I am so thankful to have the Holy Ghost in my own life.  I rely on him daily.  God really doesn’t leave us to walk through our life alone.  He is there, and he sent a comforter to be there too.

After the special ordinances that took place that morning, we celebrated the day with family and friends.

I loved having people that mean so much to Isaac be there with us to celebrate his choice.

I know it helped him recognize how loved he is, and just how important this decision is.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest gift I have, I am thankful to share it with my family.

I am thankful to share it with Isaac, and I am willing to share it with any one else who may want to know more. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to ask me.

Oh happy day Isaac, we love you!!

Do you believe in angels?

I do. I didn’t really ever realize how much, until this last year.

Last year, I laid in a hospital bed for several days.  I had just had an emergent, scary, and painful surgery, that came upon because of complications from a previous gall bladder surgery.

The pain I felt from having my stomach cut open was some of the worst pain I had ever felt.

Just one day after my surgery, the nurses wanted me to take a few steps down the hall.  I didn’t know how I was going to do it. I was in so much pain, I didn’t even know how I would get out of the bed.  I didn’t even know if I could wiggle my big toe, let alone walk. I had remembered reading that we can call upon the angels of heaven to help us. I believed this, but I had actually never used the phrase, “send the angels,” when asking for help from above.

That day, I put it to the test.  I prayed hard.  One of my most fervent prayers.  I prayed that angels would assist in helping me take a few steps.  I prayed that I could rely on their strength as I didn’t know if I had enough of my own.

That day, as the nurses lifted me up off the bed to walk, I felt a few extra sets of hands take hold.

I felt the angels pulling me and carrying me down that hall.  Doing what was asked of me seemed so much easier with the help of God’s heavenly helpers.

Since that day, I have a testimony that we can have heavenly help.  I am now saying, “send the angels” all the time in regards to motherhood.

I think the experience of understanding angels has prepared me for current situation.

I need to have surgery again.  Ugh!!  Seriously.  I am too young for this.

This has been a very hard decision to come to, and I needed heaven’s help to make this big decision.

In a nutshell, with out boring you with the details, I am having neck surgery.

I am having a cyst removed.  This cyst has been bothering me for quite some time.  It has gotten worse over the last couple of years, and it took until recently to discover what it was.

This cyst is at the T1 level(which is lower neck/shoulder area), of my spinal column.  The cyst is pushing on the nerve that comes out of that T1 level.  My nerve is basically kinked in half, and it is causing me a lot of pain.

I am also dealing with numbness, tingling, burning, and shooting pains down my arm.

I have lived with this for a while, and tried to push through life.

As it always does, chronic pain starts to take a toll.

We found a surgeon who has agreed that we should do the surgery.

I was warned of the risks, as it is a complicated area to get to.  It requires going through lots of layers, some of them riskier than others, and also messing with my nerves.

With all that said, I needed to make a decision.

Risky Surgery or  worsening Chronic Pain for a lifetime.

I knew I had to turn to the Lord.  I needed to know what he wanted for me. I offered lots of prayers.

Our family also fasted and prayed on my behalf.

I also attended the most peaceful and sacred place that we as members of the Mormon faith have here on earth; the temple.  I did this as a way to get closer to God.

IMG_8665

I spent lots of time in prayer there, hoping that an answer would come.

God doesn’t always give me clear direct answers.  I think that is because he is saying, “either choice is fine.”

In times when it matters most, I have found he always answers me in a clear direct way.

This clear direct answer came as I was reading the scriptures.

Helaman 5:47-48

47 Peace, peace be unto you, because of your faith in my Well Beloved, who was from the foundation of the world.

48 And now, when they heard this they cast up their eyes as if to behold from whence the voice came; and behold, they saw the heavens open; and angels came down out of heaven and ministered unto them.

It is amazing to me how the scripture passages we need always seem to pop up at the right time.

I know God speaks to us through the words in the scriptures.

God was telling me to have peace.  I could feel the peace settle in my heart as I read these words.  Then as I read the verse 48, I knew he was speaking directly to me.

Since that day in the hospital, I have tried to be so much more aware of the heavenly angels who help.  I know that God knows that, and he knew just how to speak to my heart.

“and behold, they saw the heavens open; and angels came down out of heaven and ministered unto them.”

As soon as I read these words, I knew that not only would the angels assist me in getting through this, but that they would also be of assistance to the surgeon and his staff.

I would let an angel perform surgery on me any day.  So if they are going to be around to guide and help, I have the peace I need to move forward.

However, because God knows that I tend to question things, he reminded me of his answer again the next day when I stumbled upon this scripture:

John 14:27

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

The Lord is the author of the peace.  Through him, I don’t need to be afraid.

Then, later that day, we attended church and we sang a beautiful song, which once again solidified my answer. Here are the beautiful words to this song:

When Faith Endures

I will not doubt, I will not fear;

God's love and strength are always near.

His promised gift helps me to find

An inner strength and peace of mind.

I give the Father willingly

My trust, my prayers, humility.

His Spirit guides; his love assures

That fear departs when faith endures.

Through my faith in the Lord, I knew that I didn’t need to fear anymore.

When life brings trials such as this, I have found comfort in this scripture:

Matthew 11:28-30

28 ¶Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

A yoke is a device put around the necks of animals to harness them together.  When they are yoked together they work together.  When one animal is weak, the strong one can help the weak one along.

When we are yoked with Christ, our burden really will be light.  He can and will help us along.  He can help us through the hard times; if we know him.

God gives us hard things so that we can be refined, so that we will turn to him and learn of him.

I need so much refining.  Maybe that’s the reason I will have had 4 surgeries in about 1 year.

In order to get through this and grow, I must know him.

I have relied on this scripture so much this last year.

See, it’s on my journal.

I made a printable for you, if you would like the reminder too. (click on the print to take you to the FREE download)

BE STILL copy

The reminder to be still, and know that he is the author of all.  The reminder to be still, and take the time to learn of him.  Learn of him, so that we can be yoked with him.  If we are yoked with him, he can make our burdens light.  Our burdens can be light when we ask him to send the angels to minister unto us.  He will give us the peace we need.

I know that there are many out there who are praying to Heavenly Father for relief, for help in carrying your burdens of grief, loneliness, and fear. Heavenly Father hears those prayers and understands your needs.

So, when in doubt remember the angels he promises to send.

Call upon them, they are there to help.

Write it down.

The thankful tree is something that has been floating around blog land and Pinterest for quite a few years.

Thankful Tree-0334

Our family often partakes in the ritual of hanging the leaves of gratitude on our makeshift tree.

Other years, we have written on placements that which we are thankful for.

Today, I share this with you not so you can see this idea for the umpteenth time; but to shed some light on why our family chooses to do it.

I am a firm believer in taking the time to recognize your blessings.

The greatest lesson I have learned from writing this blog is that it is important to write down your blessings.

Every moment I share here I consider to be a blessing.  My life, my family, my home, the little everyday moments, and my faith are among my greatest blessings. I am thankful to have them written down.  I feel so much gratitude when I can go back and read; and be reminded how richly blessed my life has been.

I have always loved the quote:

“We write to taste life twice once in the moment and retrospect.” Anias Nin

I believe we write down our blessings once in the moment, and then so we can be reminded of God’s love in retrospect.

Often times I stumble upon those written down blessings at the very moment I need a good warm hug from God.

Thankful Tree-0323

And this is what I want for our children.

Thankful Tree-0327

Simple reminders of God’s love for them.

Thankful Tree-0325

Written down by their own hand to see daily.

Thankful Tree-0321

I was deeply touched the morning I walked down to see my littles in the kitchen filling out the leaves all on their own.

Thankful Tree-0313

Thankful Tree-0317

They know what blessings are.

Thankful Tree-0322

They know they have been given so much.

Thankful Tree-0330

They know God surely loves them…

Thankful Tree-0328

and when their heart is heavy they won’t forget because, there it is, right in front of them, written in their own penmanship.

Thankful Tree-0324

What are you thankful for?  Take the time to write it down somewhere so you don’t forget.

Photo Dump… Conference Weekend

Just recently, I promised myself to take more pictures of the everyday?

I don’t know what happened to me in the last year.

I was the girl who carried her camera everywhere she went, and now all the sudden I forget to take it to my Nephew’s baby blessing?

 photo HankBlessingPhotos-0033_zps26881757.jpg

(I did get a few later in the evening, but it was getting dark; still adorable little Hank)

 photo HankBlessingPhotos-0011_zps0bdc9205.jpg

Maybe I was worried about being “that girl.”  You know the one who always has her camera in your face.

Maybe I was worried that my back would get worse from lugging that camera around.

Then I remembered I like being that girl, and who cares about my back.

Memories are more important to me.

So… I will be trying to do some photo dumps around here; hopefully once a week.

I will share pics from my big girl camera, and my iphone.  You should be able to decipher the two.  If not; I must not be much of a photographer with my big girl camera.

I will just be dumping pictures here that remind me of great times.

Like General Conference weekend; for example.

General Conference is a weekend for us to gather in our homes as members of the LDS church to listen to our leaders via; tv, internet, or radio.

We played a fun game this weekend.

 photo Conferenceweekend2of19_zps7934d917.jpg

I filled bowls with different pieces of candy and a word that they might hear from our leaders.  When they heard it they could pick that candy to eat.  This made them listen.

 photo ConferenceWeekend-001_zps1678bceb.jpg

There was lots of time spent jumping between sessions on Saturday.  Of course in pajamas, because that’s how we roll on Conference Weekend.

Jex is putting to use what he learns in tumbling.

On Saturday, Jonathan took the boys to dinner and I took the girls.

IMG_4102IMG_4097IMG_4106

We went to Kneaders.  I laughed when Stella  bit the head off her ghost cookie and said, “look, it’s Mike Wisouski.”

IMG_4100

Stella also spent the weekend braiding my hair.  She would braid it while we listened to Conference.

IMG_4103

She is getting really creative.

We made monster cookies.  Our version of Monster cookies is any cookie recipe and dump in whatever goodie you have.

Conference weekend (14 of 19)

We added:

caramel bits, reeses pieces, chocolate chips, and toffee pieces.  YUM!!

We ended the weekend with FHE on Monday.

We used a sponge to talk to our kids about soaking up the gospel and sharing it with others.  When a sponge is full, there is always extra water to share.

Conference Weekend-002

It’s weekends like these that I don’t want to forget.

Stay tuned for more memories from this week.

…and if you haven't all ready make sure you run over to Kristin's blog and enter her giveaways.

Oh, and if you love my stockings; Lindsay is giving 2 away there.  Don’t miss it.

We have all adjusted to the “New” around here.

We are all settling in, and have fell in love with the “New.”

So much so, that I find myself counting my many blessings each and every day.

Counting my blessings to live in Utah.

Realizing what a beautiful and truly unique place this is to live.

Something I would not have realized unless I moved away from it.

I am so thankful to be permanently settled here in Utah.

I am thankful to recognize God’s love for me through the beauty that is in the earth.
